Katahdin Log Home

The owners of this home have vacationed in Rangeley for years but wanted to build a place to call their own. Built from a Katahdin Cedar Log Homes kit, this home is located on Quimby Pond in Rangeley.

This home was featured in Maine Home + Design.

Large Space Living

With such a large home, it’s important to keep scale in mind while making design choices. We utilized an extra-large 24”x24” tile for larger spaces like the kitchen and dining room while using a scaled-down version of the same tile in smaller areas such as the entryway and mudroom. We also chose lighting on a massive scale, including a canary cage light in the entry and a 5-foot moose antler chandelier for the great room. A custom fireplace serves as the focal point for the great room. For this, we utilized a fireplace insert with a rough-cut granite hearth and a cultured stone surround.

Camp Kitchen

Although the home is built from a kit, the kitchen is fully custom. The cabinets are stained wood, but we painted the island a muted green to bring color into the cabin. We used a watered-down version of this color to paint the custom-built barn doors, giving them a stained appearance with a hint of green. The backsplash features an intricate art mosaic tile centerpiece over the range with coordinating Pratt and Larson handmade field tile.

Custom Bathroom Details

The bathrooms in this home are filled with custom details. We chose a unique piece of quartzite that’s no longer being quarried for the master vanity and tub. We also adjusted the size of the floorplan to extend the size of the master shower, which features a rustic ledge tile for the wall and a flat pebble tile for the shower floor. This ledge tile finishes both the tub and the master vanity. In the guest bathroom, we used a herringbone design for the tile surrounding the tub.
