Zuhause

Zuhause means home in German, and our clients wanted to build a home where they could retire and live year-round. This project combines beauty and function to build a forever home that meets the homeowner's needs.

Year-round comforts

We wanted to make sure the home worked for the owners, no matter the season. We included a large pantry with additional dry goods storage in the basement to keep the home well-stocked in winter. The main living space can also be closed off from the rest of the house to create a cozy burrow in the coldest months. A whole-house audio system brings enjoyment in any kind of weather.

Gourmet kitchen

The kitchen is both hardworking and beautiful. It features workhorse appliances, including a Wolf range and an effective range hood that we clad in wood to coordinate with the herringbone butcher block countertops. Blue cabinetry and herringbone accent tile provide contrast to the wood, while the windows provide a beautiful view of the lake during the winter.

Accessibility

The homeowners wanted to make sure their forever home would be accessible, especially in the bathrooms. We installed a no-threshold, barrier-free shower that features an ADA-compliant bench and a single pane of glass. We also maintained accessibility by providing 3 feet of clearance around the toilet. Blue and herringbone accents continue into this space.

The Mannkellar

The mannkellar is a special place where the homeowner can cook and entertain. Part of the walkout basement, it features a soapstone Bun Baker for wood-fired pizza and bread, multiple fridges, and plenty of storage for wood and the homeowner’s whiskey collection. Design features include stained alder cabinets, soapstone countertops, industrial shelving, a gentleman’s faucet, and barrel tables.
